Rev. Darryl Tate

Chapter President

Rev. Darryl Allen Tate is a native of New Iberia, LA.  He received an Associate Bachelor Degree in Business from LSU, Bachelor in Theology from Fairfax University and Masters in Divinity from SMU Perkins School of Theology.  Darryl is an Ordained Elder and member of Louisiana Annual Conference.  He has been serving churches in our Louisiana United Methodist Conference since he was 17 years old: St. Martinville, New Roads, Grand River-Donaldsonville, Kinder-Oberlin-Basile, Kinder-Squires, First UMC of Kenner, Northwood in Lafayette, St. Luke’s in New Orleans, Pine Grove, Wesley Chapel, Rayville First, former President/CEO of the LA Conference of the UMC Disaster Response, Inc., St. Andrew’s of Baton Rouge, Sevier Memorial, Ferriday, Vidalia and Jonesville and currently serving in retirement First Donaldsonville; Plaquemine and Grand River.  He was a member of the Louisiana High School Football Officials for 16 years serving in the Lafayette, New Orleans and currently in the Baton Rouge Association. Darryl loves LSU football, LSU Basketball and LSU Baseball, including serving as an LSU Marshall.

 

Darryl was asked by Bishop Hutchinson of the Louisiana Annual Conference to join the conference staff after Hurricane Katrina to organize both the Relief and Recovery Ministry for the Conference.  Since August 29, 2005, he has managed more than 170 employees in responses to the catastrophic disasters of 2005 and 2008.  On September 1, 2009, Bishop Hutchinson added to Darryl’s responsibilities, the Conference Disaster Coordinator’s duties, in 2008 he helped organized and becoming the President/CEO of both the Louisiana Conference of the UMC Disaster Response, Inc. and Louisiana Conference of The UMC Case Management, Inc. 

 

When it comes under the ministry of Evangelism, Darryl has had Church Growth in every appointment since 1978.  In 2000, Darryl received from the La Civic and Moral Henry Bowdon Preaching Award. He received the 2014 Harry Denman Evangelism Award in recognition for his 600 professions of Faith over his ministry career. He has served as the Treasurer of the Council on Evangelism for 2008-13.  He is a Certified Evangelist for The United Methodist Church and has held revivals across the connection.  Currently since General Conference 2000-2020, Darryl is an Assistance Secretary to the General Conference Secretary.  He has service both in the SCJ and the Annual Conference as the Co-Chair of the SCJ VIM/DR Board, Conference Board of Pension; Discipleship; Conference Council of Ministries; Ordain Ministries and numerus District committees.

 

For the past five years he been in the Insurance Business with State Farm and now he and his wife, Carolyn started their own business, name Currency Insurance Agency, LLC that focus on Life; Long Term Insurance; Health and Medicare.  He is certified in LTC and Medicare Specialist.  This past summer Darryl was asked to become a partner in the Tyner Jeter Insurance Agency, LLC focusing on Commercial and personal lines insurance.  On January 2nd. Darryl became a partner in Wealth Planners Advisory Group, LLA

 

Darryl is married to Carolyn, and they have two daughters: Misti Maraldo marriage to David Maraldo and Emilie Mae Tate McKevitt marriage to Tim McKevitt. They are the proud grandparents of two grandsons for Misti and David. Their daughter, Emilie and Tim, her husband gave them their third grandson.
